This sacred site is a place full of meaning and emotion for me, and this sequence of iterations is a future history across time and space. It’s here I performed a ritual of sacrifice and sharing, practiced by my ancestors for millennia, in deep gratitude for the recovery of my child. The harsh artificial borders of war forced me to create an imagined future in a place under occupation that I can no longer visit. The building on the left represents the connection to our ancestors and culture, and a past that is ever deepening as we continue to exist throughout time despite the incursions of colonialism and its attempts to annihilate indigenous people. The changes on the right represent multiple presents across time in relation to our past. The sky represents the future that we envision and create as we assert our right to exist, our belonging as indigenous creatures of the Earth in past, present and future at once.

The compositions shift throughout time and space, beginning with the land before the war and occupation, the destruction and exploitation of the land by the occupiers, the return of the land to the people. The land is changed over time by alien and indigenous influences, as we seek a better future. We experiment with the destructive forces of capitalism, which are destined to fail in a society not built on a foundation of colonialism which exploits the land and its population. We and our mountains persevere until the prophecy of peace and prosperity through love and respect for each other and the land is realized in the fullness of time.

I stored these memories of my family and images from a future history for you to discover. Now that you’ve found them, take this journey through time and space to see what the prophecy divines for us and our road to the better future we dream of.
